I rather like my USB ports that replace the two right most controller ports:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/seishuku/xbox.jpg
(nevermind the dust, I'm a lousy house keeper :P )

I've even made a standard USB to xbox controller round connector (the small one at the controller, not the xbox), so I can use an xbox controller on a PC or on the xbox USB. :D

Of course I did this years ago. Like when the xbox came out, and I reflashed the TSOP ROM.

http://www.xbmc.org/wiki/?title=USB_Mass_Storage_support_in_XBMC_for_Xbox

That answered all of my questions regarding the USB capacity of XBMC on an Xbox. Coupled with that, if you've got a way to connect a USB device to the Xbox, you're in business. =)

Ray - if I understand your question, yes. if you cut apart the controller extension cord, you'll find the same wiring as the controller ports (of course). The colors all correspond, too. So if you've got yourself a USB extension cord too, you can wire it into the controller extension cord in the same way I wired it into the controller ports.

What im describing is a controller extension cord with a female USB cord coming off the side of it. Follow me? This setup will allow you to use either the controller or a standard USB device with that extension cable. This is actually the setup I first used to test the USB functionality of the Xbox and XBMC. After I found it functional, I moved on to integrating the ports.

In terms of what XBMC supports, I have only used a 2 gig drive with it, but because XBMC is heavily linux-based (mplayer and whatnot), I doubt you'll run into any problems with flash drive support. =)

Good luck!

Nice work there, it looks like it came with usb ports. I want to try out this myself too but before I go ahead and do it. Can you please tell me can I connect a female USB port using a Xbox controller extension cable w/o opening the xbox? I only want to use for copying video/pictures into the xbmc using a flash drive. And does XBMC (PIMPED) support 4GB flash drivers? thx

The USB hub would have to have external power. Most PC USB ports can push enough power for five devices per port, so the USB hub just splits that power. The XBOX is set up to supply enough power for one device per port.

It's an interesting idea though! ;)

What id you attached a small USB hub to the leads rather than just the 2 ports, would all ports be usable?
